Mei Terumī is the current leader of Kirigakure, known as the Fifth Mizukage. She took over after the previous ruler, Yagura Karatachi, who had a terrible reign. Mei worked hard to improve the internal rules and establish friendly connections with other ninja villages.

Background

Mei Terumī went through a tough time as a young girl in Kirigakure, enduring a harsh graduation ritual and fighting in the Village of the Bloody Mist. When she became the Mizukage, she faced difficulties in undoing the negative legacy of the Fourth Mizukage and the village's history. In the anime, Mei received a letter from the Fifth Kazekage and Hokage, inviting Kirigakure to participate in the Chūnin Exams. After discussing with her advisors, Mei decided that her village would not take part in the exams.

Personality

Mei is known for her kind and cheerful nature, preferring to avoid conflicts and speaking highly of others. She showed openness and respect towards Gaara, defending him against disrespectful behavior and admiring his pure-heartedness. Mei can also be flirtatious, complimenting Sasuke's appearance and expressing regret at having to fight someone so handsome. Despite her status as a Kage, she is respectful towards others and uses polite language. However, she is sensitive about her love life and age, reacting strongly to insults and misunderstandings. As the leader of Kirigakure, Mei cares about the welfare and history of her village. She believed her predecessor was manipulated and was ready to fight against those who possessed similar genjutsu abilities. Mei is courageous in battle but acknowledges her limitations and can be pessimistic when facing stronger opponents. She values her marital status and dreams of being married with her fellow Kage. Mei also demonstrates honor by adjusting her abilities to prevent harm to others.

Mei's abilities are formidable, as she was able to overpower Sasuke Uchiha and inflict injuries on him, even when he utilized his powerful Susanoo. She also demonstrates proficiency in taijutsu, as shown by her ability to swiftly kick away Black Zetsu to protect the daimyō during the Fourth Shinobi World War.

With Water Release, she can create powerful torrents to extinguish flames and shape water into formidable entities like a giant dragon. Mei also utilizes the Hiding in Mist Technique to conceal movements of herself and her allies. Her mastery of Water Release proved crucial in defending her village from meteorites during a crisis. Additionally, Mei possesses two unique kekkei genkai abilities. The first is Lava Release, allowing her to expel corrosive mud that can dissolve almost anything, creating steam for tactical advantages. She can manipulate the mist's potency and acidity, and she remains unaffected by its harmful effects.
