At the age of 8, Itachi awakened his Sharingan after witnessing the death of his teammate, Tenma Izumo. He quickly mastered its abilities and showcased skills superior to most of his clan members. Itachi gained great fame as "Itachi of the Sharingan" due to his remarkable prowess and achievements with it. He often kept his Sharingan active for extended periods with minimal chakra drain. With the Sharingan, Itachi could perceive the flow of chakra, predict movements, and effectively use genjutsu. He had the ability to turn the genjutsu of other users against them. After witnessing Shisui's suicide, Itachi awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, characterized by three spiraling curves around the pupil.
