Akatsuki: Itachi Uchiha of The Sharingan

Itachi Uchiha, a member of Konohagakure's Uchiha clan, was a skilled ninja and Anbu Captain. However, he turned into a wanted criminal when he killed his entire clan, leaving only his younger brother, Sasuke, alive. Itachi joined the criminal group Akatsuki and clashed with Konoha and its ninjas, including Sasuke, who sought revenge for their clan. After his death, it was revealed that Itachi's actions were motivated by loyalty to his brother and village, showing that he remained a faithful ninja of Konohagakure until the end.

Background

Itachi Uchiha had a troubled childhood marked by violence and war. Traumatized by the death and destruction, he became a pacifist and trained hard to become a ninja in order to eliminate fighting. He formed a close bond with his friend Shisui and excelled in his studies, becoming the top student in the academy. Itachi joined the Anbu at a young age and worked as a double agent, reporting his clan's plans for a coup to the village leaders. However, peace could not be achieved, and Itachi was faced with a difficult choice. He decided to wipe out his own clan to protect his brother Sasuke and the village. Itachi took on the role of a villain to drive Sasuke to seek revenge and joined the criminal organization Akatsuki to keep them from attacking Konoha. Despite his actions, Itachi carried the burden of guilt and suffered from a terminal illness, determined to meet his end at Sasuke's hands.

Personality

Itachi was a calm and wise person from a young age. He showed maturity and knowledge in handling various situations. Despite his accomplishments and fame, he remained humble and fair, always acknowledging the abilities of others. Itachi had a deep understanding of history and the world, which made him concerned about the future. He observed people and ideas from a distance to fully comprehend them. He valued peace and disliked fighting, using genjutsu as a first option and ending fights quickly with minimal harm. He dedicated himself to the greater good and trained relentlessly to be useful to others. Itachi had conflicting aspects of his personality, being both pacifistic and wrathful when his loved ones were threatened. His top priority was his younger brother Sasuke, and he sacrificed everything, including his own damnation, to protect him. Itachi regretted his actions and tried to manipulate Sasuke, but in the end, he realized his mistakes and sought redemption. He entrusted Naruto to stop Sasuke and warned him not to forget the value of his friends. Itachi also showed empathy towards his enemy Kabuto and forgave himself for his past mistakes. In his final moments, he was open and honest with Sasuke, admitting his failures and expressing his eternal love for him.

Abilities

Itachi was an exceptional genius within the Uchiha clan and the entire ninja academy. He displayed remarkable talent and skill at a young age, surpassing his peers and earning a reputation as one of Konoha's strongest shinobi. Itachi excelled in all areas of ninja training and effortlessly learned new techniques through observation. His abilities were acknowledged by both allies and enemies, with even powerful individuals like Orochimaru admitting Itachi's superiority. Despite being weakened by illness, Itachi could have defeated his younger brother Sasuke in their final battle if he had chosen to do so. Even when holding back, Itachi pushed a team of highly skilled jōnin to their limits.

Chakra and Physical Prowess

Itachi possessed strong chakra due to his Uchiha heritage and demonstrated advanced control over it. He could enhance his attacks by channeling chakra, displaying great strength by shattering large boulders. However, his actual chakra reserves were limited by his terminal illness. During the Uchiha Massacre, he could use his Mangekyō Sharingan five times without feeling too tired, but in later years, just three uses in a day would leave him unable to activate his Sharingan and require substantial rest to recover. This made him unsuited for prolonged battles. Itachi was highly skilled in taijutsu and defeated three members of the Konoha Military Police Force at the age of 11. He possessed exceptional speed, reflexes, and hand movements, making it difficult for even Sharingan-users to keep up with him. His usage of the Body Flicker Technique allowed him to instantly move over great distances, leaving little opportunity for opponents to react. Despite his debilitating illness, Itachi displayed remarkable fortitude, maintaining his composure and fighting at a nearly flawless level.

Ninjutsu

Itachi had the ability to summon crows and would use them in groups to distract and confuse his enemies. He would even create clones of himself with crows integrated into them to divert attention. Additionally, he could create shadow clones and make them explode for powerful attacks. Itachi was skilled in fūinjutsu, especially in creating seals that would activate when a specific person's Sharingan was present. Due to his experience in the Anbu, he became adept in stealth, infiltration, and assassinations.

Bukijutsu

Itachi, as a highly trained member of Konoha's Anbu, was skilled in swordsmanship, which he primarily used during the Uchiha Clan's downfall. He excelled in shurikenjutsu, a throwing technique using shurikens. Even as a child, Itachi displayed remarkable accuracy by deflecting his projectiles off each other to hit multiple targets, including hidden ones. His throwing speed was so fast that it nullified the advantages of the Summoning: Lightning Flash Blade Creation technique. Itachi was also proficient with kunai and could spar with sword-wielding opponents using them. In the anime, he learned sleight-of-hand techniques from Shisui, allowing him to surprise his opponents with even less reaction time.

Nature Transformation

Itachi possessed several nature transformations, including Fire, Water, Wind, Yin, and Yang Release. Being an Uchiha, he had a natural talent for Fire Release and mastered the clan's Great Fireball Technique at a young age. He could also enhance his shuriken with fire, making them more powerful. With Water Release, Itachi could create the Water Dragon Bullet Technique without needing an external water source. He was also able to manipulate existing water to form tendrils and attack his opponents from multiple directions.

Genjutsu

Due to his pacifist beliefs, Itachi specialized in genjutsu, often utilizing crows in his techniques. His mastery of genjutsu allowed him to share information or incapacitate his opponents psychologically, bringing the fight to an immediate end. Renowned as one of Konohagakure's most skilled genjutsu users, he was comparable to Shisui himself. Even without relying on his Sharingan, Itachi's illusions were incredibly potent, seamlessly affecting his targets without their awareness, even if they were on high alert. He could even perform genjutsu by simply pointing at his intended target. Itachi's exceptional aptitude in long-range genjutsu was so impressive that he could control multiple individuals beyond the reach of an entire Sensor Division, as noted by Ao.

Dōjutsu

Sharingan

At the age of 8, Itachi awakened his Sharingan after witnessing the death of his teammate, Tenma Izumo. He quickly mastered its abilities and showcased skills superior to most of his clan members. Itachi gained great fame as "Itachi of the Sharingan" due to his remarkable prowess and achievements with it. He often kept his Sharingan active for extended periods with minimal chakra drain. With the Sharingan, Itachi could perceive the flow of chakra, predict movements, and effectively use genjutsu. He had the ability to turn the genjutsu of other users against them. Additionally, the Sharingan enabled him to perform Izanami, a counterpart to the risky Izanagi technique.

Mangekyō Sharingan

After witnessing Shisui's suicide, Itachi awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, characterized by three spiraling curves around the pupil. With his right eye, he could use Amaterasu, creating black flames that could burn anything, even fire itself, and extinguish them at will. With either eye, he could cast Tsukuyomi, a powerful genjutsu that trapped his opponents in an illusory world of his creation, distorting their perception of reality. Itachi's Tsukuyomi was so intense that it could cause mental damage and potentially kill the victim. He could also use Susanoo, a protective warrior surrounding him, which granted him extra arms or bones for combat. Itachi's Susanoo wielded the Sword of Totsuka, a sword that could seal anyone it pierced, and the Yata Mirror, a shield capable of countering any attack. However, using these techniques drained Itachi's chakra, and excessive usage would deactivate his Sharingan and deteriorate his eyesight. In his reincarnated form, he could use all his Mangekyō techniques without limitations.

Intelligence

Itachi was a highly intelligent and composed individual, displaying exceptional thinking and strategic abilities. He achieved remarkable scores in the Chūnin Exams written test and possessed quick decision-making skills, allowing him to remain calm and respond efficiently in battles. From a young age, he approached situations with careful calculations, minimizing the chances of making mistakes. Itachi also implemented various plans and precautions, such as measures for Sasuke's well-being and strategies against Tobi, even after his death. Tobi acknowledged that Itachi's traps would have been lethal if he hadn't kept certain secrets from him. Additionally, during his infiltration of Konoha, Itachi managed to subtly communicate Akatsuki's goals to Kakashi, Kurenai, Asuma, and Jiraiya without arousing suspicion from his partner Kisame.
