Background
Before the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura Karatachi, became the leader, the Hidden Mist Village had a practice where graduates from the academy fought to the death as a final exam. The best students were chosen to be part of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. Zabuza, who was not yet a student, killed many academy students and gained a reputation as the "Demon of the Hidden Mist." He later became an Anbu and joined the Seven Swordsmen. He discovered Haku, a child with special abilities, and trained him. Zabuza and Haku witnessed an attack on their village but chose not to help. Zabuza was aggressive, cruel, and ambitious, willing to do whatever it took to gain power, including plotting to kill his employer once he had enough money. He earned the nickname "Demon of the Hidden Mist" for killing all the candidates in Kirigakure's Academy. Zabuza saw people, including shinobi, as tools to be used for his own purposes.
