Tailed Beasts: Kokuo The Five Tails

Kokuō, more commonly known as the Five-Tails, is one of the nine tailed beasts. It was last sealed within Han from Iwagakure.

Background

Kokuō and the other tailed beasts were created long ago by Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki. He divided the powerful chakra of the Ten-Tails into nine separate beings and gave them names. Although they were separated, the Sage explained to the young tailed beasts that they shared a connection and would eventually reunite. He also predicted that someone would come to show them true power. In the anime, before he died, Hagoromo sent Kokuō to live in a temple in a forest for protection. During the First Shinobi World War, Hashirama Senju captured eight tailed beasts, including Kokuō and Son Gokū, and gave them to Iwagakure as a gesture of friendship and to maintain a balance of power. However, Akatsuki later captured Kokuō from Han after extracting it.

Personality

Kokuō is a quiet and polite tailed beast that doesn't talk much. It refers to itself in a formal way, using the word "watakushi." It takes pride in being a tailed beast but was unhappy when it was controlled and manipulated by Tobi in the Fourth Shinobi World War. After the war, Kokuō expressed its desire to live in seclusion in the forest, indicating that it prefers peace and doesn't want any more conflicts.

Abilities

Kokuō, being a tailed beast, has a huge amount of chakra and can unleash a powerful attack called the Tailed Beast Ball. It has a strong willpower and was the only tailed beast that managed to break free from Tobi's control, even if only for a short time, and tried to attack him. Kokuō is also physically strong, using its horns to fight, and was able to injure and push Gyūki a long way with its powerful ramming force.

Ninjutsu

Kokuō can create Boil Release by mixing water and fire chakra, which raises the temperature of its chakra to the boiling point. This power enables it to perform "steam-based ninjutsu," which gives Kokuō and its jinchūriki incredible physical strength. When using this ability, the jinchūriki emits a lot of steam from their body.
